Desert Modernism

During my time at Coach, I designed and presented a Spring 2020 collection to all the design teams. I wanted to reference Coach’s creative director Stuart Vevers’ first debut 1941 runway collection focusing on Americanness and using late 1970s suburban scene from Sternfeld's book of photographs American Prospects as the show's backdrop.

I was inspired 1950s Palm Springs desert, Slim Aaron’s photographs, and old Hollywood glamour. A big part of Coach is its heritage as an all American leather accessories brand. I did research at the exclusive Coach Archive and referenced all the coach items throughout the years. I designed 3 handbag silhouettes and 3 platforms that captured the essence of 1950s and Coach’s ethos.

Silhouettes

I designed three silhouettes that are timeless staples for Coach’s demographic. They’re inspired by Coach’s classic archival style with a focus on vintage Coach hardware. These silhouettes can be used each season with new platforms and treatments.
